Course Information

The College of Education of the University of Illinois at Chicago prepares its students not only to become teachers, principals, researchers, and community leaders, but also to work in less traditional learning environments outside of schools and classrooms, like nonprofits, health centers, daycare centers, youth development programs, universities, museums, community organizations.
The main focus is on developing in students certain skills allowing future professionals to foster diversity, nurture self-worth, self-confidence, and self-advocacy.
There are two disciplines offered within the curriculum:

Human Development & Learning

Urban Education: Elementary Education

Whether you are interested in working with young children, adolescents, or adults, the BA in Human Development and Learning will prepare you to guide and nurture people's growth and education.With the help of our faculty and advisors, students customize the HDL major to their professional and personal goals.

The Urban Education program with Elementary Education Concentration develops students to become exceptional licensed teachers. Through their studies and field experience, Urban Education students help children and youth in urban schools achieve their greatest potential.


Entry requirements

  • Applicants are considered on an individual basis. Complete transcripts for all undergraduate and any graduate work must be submitted.

  • English proficiency is required for the programme.
