Course Information

Cyber security is rapidly evolving, and professionals must keep up-to-date with the complexities of different cyber threats, as well as the different technologies under attack.

On this microcredential, you’ll learn how cyber security professionals respond to an imminent, active or recent cyber threat. You’ll explore how to go about resolving attacks and how to complete legal investigations of any potential cybercrime. You’ll develop skills in this exciting area using up-to-date experience from the internationally recognised Cisco Certified CyberOps Associate Certification.

Worldwide spending on cyber security is forecasted to reach £102.5 billion in 2022 and projected employment for IT security analysts is predicted to grow 32% between 2018 and 2028.

You’ll have access to our online welcome area where you’ll be able to start conversations with your fellow learners and read any announcements or information relating to your microcredential.

This microcredential consists of a single course of 12 week length. You are supposed to dedicate 13 study hours per week.

Once you’ve successfully completed the microcredential, you’ll receive your university credit from The Open University.

You’ll have permanent access to the Cisco NetAcad platform and all learning resources and software associated with the microcredential.

 

Entry Requirements

This microcredential is for anyone wanting to master the skills required for a career in cyber security.

All required skills and foundational knowledge are covered within this microcredential; however, it’s recommended you have a good understanding of computer technology and technical experience from a computing, IT or industry qualification.

It is essential that you’re able to access a device capable of running a virtual machine - please check this before enrolling.

Please note: From November 2021 some of the content of this course will be duplicated within the Open University module Network Security.
