University of Law-LLM Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution

University of Law is one of the UK's longest-established specialist providers of legal education. It can be back to 1876 with the formation of tutorial firm Gibson & Weldon, and in 2016, they opened their leading Business School. With a rich heritage and a reputation for innovation and contemporary teaching practices, they focus on developing the best legal and business minds.

We have designed our LLM in Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Online to be a hands-on, practical course which will realistically simulate mediation and negotiation scenarios, allowing you to develop the skills required in practice. Utilising the insights of our experienced professional tutors, you’ll have the chance to gain first-hand advice and support to fully understand the nuances and skills required to achieve favourable outcomes during dispute resolution.

Each taught module is delivered over ten teaching weeks, with two hour workshops each week. All preparatory material, including any lecture content, is provided on the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), as is all consolidation material.

The dissertation is undertaken in either Term 3 (full-time) or Terms 5 and 6 (part-time). All taught modules must have been completed before you begin the dissertation.

The award-linked module for this programme (Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution) will also offer the chance to gain in-depth knowledge of mediation and alternative dispute resolution skills; core skills that are quickly becoming more sought after and are an increasingly more important part of the legal landscape.

In addition to a general induction to the programme, there is a two-week induction covering the Key Principles of the English Legal System. This is compulsory for non-law students, but also open to law students wanting a refresher in the fundamentals of the law of England and Wales. This would be useful for any student who has taken a considerable break from legal education.

To help prepare you for your dissertation in Term 3, Terms 1 and 2 include a range of compulsory and further optional Research Methods Training sessions.

This programme can be taken in a full-time mode taking 12 months, or a part-time mode taking 24 months.

• Students should possess a UK bachelor’s degree in any subject at 2:2 or above or equivalent qualifications.
• Non-law students must complete a compulsory two week induction covering the Key Principles of the English Legal System, unless they can evidence the successful completion of an LLB (or equivalent) or a minimum of 3 legal modules worth at least 80 QCF credits, which must include - English Legal System, Contract Law and Law of Tort.
